Bigger Picture’s journey into AI: the visual story

From jumping in the day after ChatGPT Turbo to building our own AI-supported method. Chapter one, in pictures.

November 7th, 2023. The day after OpenAI dropped ChatGPT Turbo, we jumped in. We held a couple of events and built a few things, but it wasn’t until late 2025 that it really took off.

With help from our friends at AI startup Palette we got our big aha, or as they say, “the unlock” (check them out, they are building a really clever solution for teams).

We moved from ChatGPT, to Claude Chat, to Claude Cowork (thank you Brian Kyed), building context, desktop, skills and mini-agentic workflows (thank you Lars Ettrup).

Then we started creating and building around our own method: the Five Building Blocks of Visual Collaboration and our three deliveries. It was failing fast. Going in circles. Burning time. Shouting and throwing paint at the AI (we called it ViCo).

New questions emerged. What do we want AI to help us with? What don’t we? Where will the different aspects of AI lead for the work we and our networks do? How does it all fit together in a bigger picture? And how do we make sure we design something we also want to be part of?

So we looked into pro-human AI, ethical AI, pro-planet AI. And we decided to do what we believe we do best: help bring clarity and meaning to something complex that will keep changing fast.

Here is our visual story, chapter one. What’s yours?

We think everyone could benefit from sketching their own AI journey, their own AI landscape (what you use now and how) and a vision of how AI will, or will not, show up further down the road. Doing it, you will have a lot of good conversations with the people around you, about the potential and the risks. And most importantly, what you choose to do about it. Do it now. Or at least soon.

Across this site you can see what we are building with Bigger Picture & AI, and how you can join a conversation, host a meetup (online or in person) and workshop your way to clarity. Individually, as a team, or as an organisation.

In the next SF notes we will share different angles of what we see in the AI spectrum.
